The Inevitable Event (Al-Waqi‘ah)
Verses 27-40 GROUP_1433 56.27-40
27
وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ
Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right!
28
فِي سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ
They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns
29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ
and clustered bananas,
30
وَظِلٍّ مَّمْدُودٍ
and spreading shade
31
وَمَاء مَّسْكُوبٍ
and flowing water,
32
وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ
and fruits in abundance,
33
لَّا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ
never-ending and unrestricted,
34
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ
on raised couches.
35
إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاء
We have created maidens perfectly
36
فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا
and made them virgins,
37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا
loving companions, matching in age,
38
لِّأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ
for those on the Right,
39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ
a large group of the earlier people
40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ الْآخِرِينَ
and a large group of those of later times.

Commentary
(a) ‘Those on the Right’ (ashab al-yamin) means the ordinary people of paradise. This category includes all those people who, according to their belief and character, were pious. As regards faith, they were not in possession of a high degree of consciousness. However, they were sincere about God and His Prophet, and they maintained themselves on the path of justice and went in fear of God throughout their lives. In this category there will be a fair number of persons from the earlier period and a considerable number from the later period.
